Horehronie lies on the southern side of the Low Tatras in the upper Hron valley. Stays in Mýto pod Ďumbierom, Tále and Bystrá are close to the Chopok South ski area and, in summer, to the trails up Ďumbier and Chopok. The Bystrianska Cave is in Bystrá.
Families enjoy the Čierny Hron forest railway in Čierny Balog. Further up the valley are Heľpa and Telgárt, known for folk traditions and the Chmarošský viaduct. The offer also includes Donovaly, a year-round mountain resort for families and beginner skiers.
